Halloween one day or all year round?

Halloween one day or all year round?

Recently I've seen a lot of people talking about how Halloween has become 'as big as Christmas', 'it's only 1 day' (so is Christmas!)

Being a Halloween loving family, we tend to have skulls, pumpkins, and ghosts all over our house all year round. My 6 year old will often ask for 'the Halloween box' which is full of our decorations. We've even had orange and black tinsel around our fireplace since May this year.

When I was a child in the 90s our decorations consisted of a pumpkin if we were lucky, and our costumes where the good old black bin liner with the plastic witch fingers, plus a hat and a broom if we could find them. We never went trick or treating, but I did love it when all of the kids from our street came to our door. My own parents didn't really care about Halloween.

When I had my own children, I too decided not to trick or treat as we seemed to  be the only family that celebrated (and still are) Instead every year I have done spooky sweet hunts around the house, and they go off with their pumpkin bags to collect what they find. We do get trick or treaters but they all tend to be going around in their cars these days looking for decorated houses - which ours always is. Every October we make our way through our list of family favourite Halloween films too, and I've always done crafts and baking.

Luckily, I've been fortunate enough to find lots of fellow spooky loving people in groups such as Halloween UK on Facebook, and through my customers who cheer every time I find a new ghost fabric, or more bats!

Whether its making a new headband, buying a new skull ornament, reading a spooky book, or just watching one of my favourite films from my childhood such as Casper or The Addam's family, Halloween is part of everyday life. I even have spooky shoe laces!

One thing I cannot get on board with though is pumpkin spice anything! Is it savoury? Is it sweet? What even is it? (controversial opinion in the Halloween community!) Give me some warm comfort food- a big bowl of chunky soup, thick doorstop bread, and a big fluffy jumper any day (Halloween themed of course) Autumn is most definitely my favourite season.

How ever you do Halloween I hope its filled with more treats than tricks!
